Dessa is an absolutely brilliant person. Not just a brilliant artist but just a good-natured human being, making music that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside because you know what she’s singing is the absolutely truth. One part of the Doomtree collective, Dessa represents another side of the group. It would be cheap to call it the feminine side, just because Dessa is a woman. But it’s definitely the more internal side of the group’s generally personal lyrics. Her music is powerful, intricate, everything you want to see and hear on a day where you’re completely over pop music.
Luckily, if you’re into introspective hip hop/lyrics, Dessa is coming to Chicago Tuesday, October 11 at Lincoln Hall. Tickets are $12 and the show is 21+. And if you’re on the fence, take a listen to “Castor, the Twin” off of her new album of the same name.
