It’s no secret that Cars is probably the least beloved of the Pixar oevure; this isn’t to say it wasn’t entertaining, just that it doesn’t really hang with their best work. So, when it was announced that Cars would be one of the first Pixar properties to get a sequel, reactions ranged from surprise to dismay to “Why the hell is this happening before The Incredibles 2?”

That said, this film doesn’t look bad. By expanding the universe Pixar has afforded themselves the opportunity to broaden the voice cast (I really hope that’s Michael Caine I hear) and the story line, while playing around with their all-car universe. But seriously, cars with mouths are still terrifying. The film is out June 24, 2011.
