Moon Duo To Release New LP in March, Plot Tour

Moon Duo are preparing to invade audience’s headphones again with their new album Mazes.  A follow-up to the band’s last album Escape, Mazes is a more pop-oriented album but still emits that 60s acid trippy vibe Moon Duo put forth on their earlier release.  Ripley Johnson, the main man behind Wooden Shjips, and Sanae Yamada traveled to Berlin to record Mazes.  Though the change of scenery may not be evident on the album, a change in music definitely is.  For those who cringe at the sight of artists described as “psych-rockers,” Moon Duo’s new single “Mazes” is the prescription to the problem.  Johnson and Yamada’s crunched-out guitars and echoed vocals still hang in the atmosphere but “Mazes” drive parallels that of a 60s Brit pop song.  Yes, there are jams a-plenty but Moon Duo never strays far from the point and keeps it interesting with hooks and a driving beat.  It’s a psych-rock single for those who normally despise the genre, a task that cannot be easy to achieve.

Moon Duo is embarking on a US tour to promote their new album, joining up with Blank Dogs for a couple of co-headlining dates.  Mazes comes out March 29 on Sacred Bones Records.  Download the single “Mazes” via Pitchfork.
