When things go bump in the night, there are two types of people: there are people like me who cower underneath blankets with flashlights, whimpering in fear. And then there are people who take up arms, gear up, and prepare for the oncoming storm. Grieves seems like the latter. In his new video for “Boogie Man,” off of his latest album Together/Apart, a little boy suits up to take on the monster in his closet. Usually kid actors are the bane of every film concept but in “Boogie Man” the little boy battles on with no fear in his eyes, and you believe it. The song itself pulls you in. “It sort of toys with you, quietly invites you in, talks to you sweetly, and then, just as you’ve settled in, it shoots you to the moon,” said Grieves and fellow collaborator Budo about the song. “It’s powerful, and I love it.”
