Business Casual Superstar: Inspired by Summer (Zooey Deschanel, 500 Days of Summer)

So today’s outfit is inspired by the anointed indie goddess herself, Zooey Deschanel, and her character Summer, from 500 Days of Summer, co-starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I include both the character and the actress because it’s clear that the character’s wardrobe was inspired by the actress portraying her: pretty, feminine, romantic pieces with bows and ruffles that are typical of Zooey Deschanel’s pixie princess style.

I haven’t seen the movie myself, but the idea of creating an outfit inspired by Summer planted itself in my head when I saw this fandom!secret:

I want to say I understand where the OP (original poster) is coming from, and I think I do, but again, I haven’t seen the movie. However, the blogosphere has once again come to the rescue of people like me, with this post distilling this movie down to four comic panels.

Bwahaha.

Let’s get on with the outfit, shall we?

Puddle Pleasure Skirt ………. $34.99
Button Shoulder Blouse ………. $48.27
Lacey Floral Skimmer ………. $9.99
Sparkly Headband in Gold ………. $2.50

Summer seemed to dress, based on stills I looked at, in hues from the same color family. That’s why, when I found this pretty, swishy, A-line skirt with the bow that was so typical of her style, I built the outfit around it and selected a tan-ish blouse. I found this cream/tan colored one at ASOS and just thought it was so pretty and feminine and prim, and paired it with the skirt.

Because I splurged a bit on the skirt (I rarely blow half my budget on one single item; I try to balance things out pretty equally), that meant I had $15 to find shoes and an accessory. I found these cute, quirky flats at Delia’s. Despite the fact that it’s a pretty “young” store, I can occasionally find cute little random things there.

Also, they used to sell underwear, and now they don’t, and this makes me sad, because all of my super-cute underwear (as opposed to my cute underwear) comes from there. Super sad! And unrelated!

Finally, Zooey loves her headbands. As does Summer. So I selected this gold one from Forever21. It adds some glitz and sparkle and gold is still kind of in the color family I went with here.

And there we have a cute little ensemble inspired by Summer WhatsHerFace from 500 Days Of Summer!
