Joan of ArcJoan of Arc

To list the projects that Tim Kinsella has worked on would require much more than a paragraph. The Chicago based Kinsella has been in Cap'n Jazz, The Sky Corvair and Make Believe – among many others. The intertwining band members can be confusing, but the focus for Tim has now shifted towards Joan of Arc, who, in May of 2008, released Boo! Human. HEAVE had a chance to catch up with Tim and ask him what makes Boo! Human so intimate. More...

We The LivingWe The Living

Everyone knows the music industry is in peril. With most major record labels shutting down or in the process of shutting down, new music has been reduced to American Idol winners and Disney television shows. We the Living has sought to change that. Taking their careers in a drastically different direction, the quartet decided to self-produce and self-promote their 2007 LP Heights of the Heavens, a sophisticated mélange of piano rock, with no help from any record label. HEAVE caught up with lead singer John Paul Roney and bassist Jasper Austin to discuss a multitude of things. More...

Jukebox the GhostJukebox the Ghost

Who doesn't love some upbeat piano rock? For Jukebox the Ghost, the classically trained pianist Ben Thornwell, along with guitarist Tommy Siegel and drummer Jesse Kristin have crafted a sound that will have you humming their tunes without even realizing it. HEAVE hit up Jukebox the Ghost before they hit the highways in mid July. More...

The VirginsThe Virgins

The Virgins are the latest buzz band to hit the scene, but it appears the foursome from New York City have some staying power. The glam of New York is ever present in their image, but their newly released self-titled full length is nothing short of accessible to any fan of music. HEAVE had a chance to catch up with them at their Chicago stop in the now winding down Nylon Magazine Tour. Missed them? Fret not, as they are back on tour with The Black Kids starting in September (hitting the Metro on October 6th). More...

WoodhandsWoodhands

It isn't easy to play an instrument that is widely regarded as a joke, but Dan Werb makes it happen. The front man of Woodhands could possibly be the only person who certifiably shreds on the keytar. He also writes sensible yet fierce electro pop with his bandmate Paul Banwatt. Hailing from Canada, HEAVE had a chance to rack up some long distance minutes and have a chat with Dan Werb. More...

The Chap

London based five-piece, The Chap, are very much interested in running your senses through an endurance test. Their latest album, Mega Breakfast, is not an immediate attraction. It plays out like a Monty Python sketch (like the Fish Slapping Dance) you're seeing for the first time and just can't get your head around. After a few more listens, the absurd pop vibe shines through and wins you over. Mega Breakfast taps into various genres allowing this band to go insane with us for forty minutes, I suggest trying on the straight jacket. HEAVE recently had a chance to talk with drummer Keith Duncan. More...

Bombadil

Unique is one word I would use to describe indie/folk-pop band Bombadil. HEAVE got a chance to catch up with Bombadil member Bryan Rahija to talk about their latest album, A Buzz, A Buzz, as well as touring, entertainment and a few other mysteries. More...
