New music: Mad Decent’s Derek Allen takes on the Police

When most people hear of the label Mad Decent, they most likely think of its founder Diplo. But there are others that have also been there from the beginning, making music along with Diplo. Derek Allen has been an integral part of the label’s sound, producing, engineering, and writing music for some of it’s hottest artists.

Working hard to make Mad Decent the label that it is is time consuming enough, but Allen found the time to write and record his first EP DJA, to be released July 5. Gracing the EP is a cover of the Police’s “Spirits In The Material World” which takes Allen’s background in hip hop and dubstep and mashes it up against the song’s 80s grandeur. Take a listen to the track below, and stream all of DJA over at Mad Decent.
