Cover Song Thursday: Broken Social Scene and Modest Mouse

The Voice Project is a pretty awesome thing. Each week The Voice Project brings in pretty popular artists to cover other equally popular artists and get a ton of hits on their site. These hits lead to lots of advertisers, sponsors and donations. The Voice Project then turns around and gives all the profit they make to programs that aid in the peace, reconciliation and rebuilding efforts.

This particular “episode” of The Voice Project brought together two heavy hitters in indie rock. Broken Social Scene showed up and covered Modest Mouse and the lead track off Good News For People Who Love Bad News “The World At Large.” Modest Mouse’s version was already pretty moody, but Kevin Drew and the rest of Broken Social Scene drag it down even a little more with slumping drums and some distortion. Have a listen to Broken Social Scene’s version of “The World At Large” below.
